Job Description
This position is a key team member reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.  The incumbent performs a wide variety of activities, which affect employee safety, production costs, and product quality.  Has detailed knowledge of most mechanical and electrical systems.  Develops, supports, and troubleshoots PLCs and computers (hardware and software) for custom and purchased systems.

This individual may be responsible for coordinating or leading multiple projects or teams concurrently, working with and through all disciplines.  He / she will also lead teams to analyze manufacturing problems and will develop alternative cost effective efficient approaches to their problems.

Another level of this position deals with procedural aspects of manufacturing and reporting.  The incumbent conducts systematic audits of operations and records of labor and material usage, identifies variances from standards, and works with engineers and production supervisors to correct them.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Audits and prepares written reports of operations identifying potential cost reductions, procedural and material variances; estimates potential for cost reductions.
  2. Works independently or with engineers and vendors, investigates and develops solutions for process limitations and cost reductions.
  3. Provides hands on support for software revisions and troubleshooting, final test programs, and data feedback to customer.
  4. Maintain current documentation and back-up of test equipment PLCs and computers for efficient and effective repair/replacement of hardware/software.
  5. Track projects to ensure timely completion and ensure expenditures remain in line with budget and acceptance.
  6. Train employees in proper methods of testing a variety of products.
  7. Work with external contractors on variety of facility and product related projects.
  8. Develops and prepares written procedures to assure safe, effective use of material and  equipment.
  9. Designs fixtures and special application tools through maintenance and tool room employees or through outside vendors to acquire fixtures and tools.
  10. Supports manufacturing with understanding and application of various plant-specific software, such as SAP, Solid Edge, turret / laser software, Sigmanest, and MP-2.
  11. Oversees various plant -related projects involving company employees and outside contractors.
  12. Supports and remains committed to plant safety, and plays an active part in safety meetings.
  13. Plays key role in cost reduction, waste minimization, product and process FMEAS, and ISO.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor degree in Electrical Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Controls Engineering or related technical discipline with 2-5 years Engineering experience is desired.

 

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

The physical job requirements for the position of Manufacturing Engineer include being able to do the following:  occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, stand for less than 4 hours per day, sit for more than 4 hours per day, occasionally grasp items with either hand, and walk for less than 4 hours per day.
