Job Description
Leads and supervises participants in the recreation camps.

Duties, Functions and Supervision/Accountability:
Major Duties/Essential Functions
* Supervises participants
* Leads and actively participates in group and individual activities
* Provides communication to and from participants and parents
* Maintains a safe environment
Minor Duties/Responsibilities
* Assist participants, respond to questions and concerns
* Cleaning of facilities
* Distribute flyers, newsletters and memos to participants
* Notify specialist and/or lead specialist of problems and concerns regarding facilities
and participants
Supervision/Accountability
* Reports to the Specialist and/or Lead Specialist

Qualifications:
Experience/Education
* Related training and/or experience working with school age children
Knowledge
* Knowledge of appropriate programming and activities for youth
* Knowledge of standard safety practices
* Department policies and procedures
Skill/Ability
* Must be 15 years of age or older
* Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other
employees, Department personnel and the public, and to deal with them in a
courteous and tactful manner
* Strong oral communication skills
* Ability to actively instruct, demonstrate, and participate in camp activities
* Ability to effectively supervise participants
* Ability to complete department First Aid Certification training

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, talk, hear, read and write. This position frequently requires an employee to walk or bend. He/she may periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. The employee may be asked to clean, sweep or mop floors and lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing approximately 10 to 20 pounds.
Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Location: Varies in Oak Creek

Work Schedule: Varies. Seasonal employees are able to work up to 40 hours per week for the summer.

Employment Period: Summer season, maximum 90 days.

Benefits: Temporary or seasonal employees are not eligible to receive City insurance retirement benefits.

Selection Guidelines: As a seasonal this job is covered by a process that includes, but is not limited to the completion of a formal application, the rating and verification of education and experience, oral interviews and a reference check. Job related tests may be required as determined by the City. All applicants may be required to submit to a stringent medical examination prior to appointment consistent with requirements of the position.
