The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Sr. Electrical Engineer - Serial Communications.

Job Summary

We are expanding our product development team and need electrical systems and component design engineers to fuel the next generation of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and Products. In this role, you will be a ready to serve resource across all Embedded Control Units (ECU) development teams guiding software development and specifying ECU communications.

Job Responsibilities

This is what you'll do:

  • Define communication between H-D ECUs. Edit Vector CAN database .dbc files according to requests of embedded software design engineers.
  • Influence H-D software and communication architecture
  • Work in an agile way to create incremental releases on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Support software integration activities and troubleshooting.
  • Define diagnostic services and DTCs for all H-D ECUs. Edit Vector Diagnostic Database .cdd files according to requests of engineering.
  • Define secure software and communications
  • Mentor H-D’s and supplier’s engineers on H-D’s embedded software development expectations
Education Specifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field. A Master’s Degree is desired.

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience. In addition they will have demonstrated the following hands-on skills:

General

  • Experience with CAN based systems.
  • Understanding of engine and chassis control systems which utilize CAN communications.
  • Familiarity with common EV subsystems, including battery, power electronics, and electric motor fundamentals is appreciated.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization.

Software

  • Full life cycle development of embedded software on automotive ECUs
  • Creation of software architectures
  • Real Time software development
  • Structured and Object Oriented Design
  • Model-based software development

Communication/Tools

  • Hands on experience with Vector software development tool chain including CANdela, CANbedded, GENy etc.
  • Development of high speed embedded communication drivers.
  • Automotive high speed communication buses especially CAN based on ISO 11898
  • Automotive on-board diagnostics based on relevant standards such as SAEJ2012, ISO15765, and ISO14429
  • Hands on testing high speed CAN

Security

  • Definition and implementation of secure software and communication architectures
