Position Description

The IoT R&D Intern will work with the R&D IoT Team to develop and rapidly execute proof-of-concept and pilot deployments of IoT enabled concepts/prototypes. This position requires a self-starter who is willing to learn and apply IoT technology to new and existing products.

Our program allows students to contribute to the success of the Company through their work assignments and provides students with a real- world work experience where knowledge learned in the classroom can be applied immediately to their work Briggs & Stratton also offers students a competitive wage in a business-casual environment.

Internship is full-time (40 hours a week) during summer 2020 and then part-time (up to 20 hours a week) during the 2020-2021 school year.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Support rapid development and deployment of IoT prototypes
  2. Develop back-end cloud applications within Application Enablement Platforms
  3. Build parsed data tables and dashboards in Application Enablement Platforms
  4. Employ API’s for transactions between systems
  5. Translate functional requirements into workflows and applications
  6. Develop basic mobile apps (iOS and Android) to support prototyping
  7. Document algorithms and software developed
  8. Investigate emerging technologies for connected products and wireless communication
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested
Job Skills Requirements
  • Completed coursework with a project demonstrating software design and development methods
  • Demonstrated software development skills in two or more of the following: Python, Java, JavaScript, node.js, C, or C++
  • Experience with using source code repositories (GitHub, etc.)
  • Familiarity with networking protocols or concepts, such as TCP/IP, MQTT, UDP, HTTP
  • Experience with IoT cloud development platforms, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Losant
  • Experience developing simple mobile apps utilizing available SDKs
  • General understanding of web and mobile technology stacks
  • Experience with common prototyping environments (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication with multidisciplinary teams including engineers and technicians.
Education
Associates Degree
Bachelor's Degree in Related field
Experience Requirements
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university studying toward a Bachelors/Associates degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a comparable degree
  • Must complete the sophomore year in the major program of study prior to beginning a co-op
  • Must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0
  • This is an entry-level position therefore previous experience is not required
  • Hands-on work experience in specified function is helpful
