Job Purpose: Capitol West Academy (CWA), a UW-Milwaukee Charter School serving grades K4–8, is seeking a dynamic, innovative professional teacher to fill an open part-time position as Special Education Teacher . This position will require the desired candidate to work from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily when school is in session. This position requires the instructional support of students with special needs per the written Individualized Education Plan, up to and including one to one supervision.
Duties:
Establish individualized student instructional program
Follow curriculum guidelines and state and local district goals
Modify plans on the basis of student diagnostic and assessment procedures
Complete evaluations (Special Ed. Law Guidelines) & IEP Guidelines (Special Ed. Law Guidelines)
Assist in ensuring that CWA is in compliance with all special education federal, state and local requirements.
Study existing and new legislation
Enforce adherence to requirements
Advise school administration on needed action
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree with teaching certification at the Elementary/Middle School Level is required. Candidates must have a valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license; strong, proactive skills in managing a classroom; and, a broad knowledge in requested content areas.
Strong academic background, and understanding of content area as evidenced by successful teaching experience
Strong proactive skills in managing classroom
Broad knowledge base in several content areas preferred
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to successfully engage with students, parents, colleagues and community members
Understanding of the nuance of urban school environment and culture
