POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Grant Accountant prepares program budgets for the Development team to accompany donor grant applications, as well as interim or final program financials for any donor’s particular grant term as necessary.  Although grant reporting would be the primary function of the Grant Accountant, the position would also be responsible for the accounts payable process and other duties as time permitted.  The Grant Accountant will have the opportunity to work directly with First Stage staff and would have the opportunity to work partially from home. This non-exempt position is year-round, part-time, and will report to the Finance Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Collaborate with First Stage staff, including Finance and Development and other departments as necessary, to prepare program budgets for donor applications.  This includes computing appropriate allocations of staff time, overhead, etc.
  • Preparation of grant budget updates, as requested by donors via First Stage’s Development team, for interim periods or as final program results.
  • Preparation of monthly or bi-monthly cost reports for any City of Milwaukee or Milwaukee Public Schools contracts.
  • Timely entry of vendor bills into the MIP accounting system, after departmental manager approval, and preparation of vendor payments on a weekly basis. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • The ideal candidate must be able to understand First Stage programming and be able to translate that into expense budgets for donors. 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and timely with staff and outside donor representatives.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively as a team to meet donor deadlines. 
  • Must have deep-rooted understanding of accounting basics, accuracy, quick analytical thinking, and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel, required.
  • Knowledge of Abila MIP (formerly Sage Fund Accounting) and Tessitura is a plus.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or a minimum of three year's work experience required.
  • Knowledge and/or interest in youth and/or performing arts helpful.

COMPENSATION
First Stage offers a mission you can stand behind and a family friendly, positive work environment. This is a part-time, non-exempt position, approximately 25 hours per week. Hours per week may vary depending upon the work requirements that week. The position pays $18 to $20 per hour depending upon experience.  This position reports to the Finance Director and allows for a flexible work schedule.
