Job Description
Summary
Under general supervision, the mason performs a variety of tasks to include; laying building materials including block, stone, brick, and pavers to fabricate, construct, alter, repair, and/or maintain walls, foundations, veneers, and other related structures or surfaces.


Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Lays blocks, bricks, or pavers following blueprints, construction plans or drawings.
  • Determines work requirements and sequence of masonry assignments through review of work orders, plans, or drawings.
  • Mixes cement using cement-mixing equipment and/or hand tools
  • Cuts or otherwise breaks bricks and concrete using hand tools and/or powered tools including hammers, saws, and drills.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools.
  • Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance.
  • Fasten of fuse brick or other building materials to structure with wire clamps, anchor holes, torch, or cement.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Time Management skills
  • Strong teamworking skills
  • Able to work additional hours as needed per the job
  • Ability to travel to project work sites.
  • Knowledge of related tools, masonry techniques, equipment and materials
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience in a construction industry is a plus.
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • OSHA 10 hour preferred

This position has no supervisory responsibility.


Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position will primarily work at construction sites where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, bend and reach above shoulders.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a construction environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and the outside environment. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by the job site location.
