Job Description
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, recognizing and providing stewardship for major donors and prospects. This role will strengthen United Way’s long-term sustainability by developing a pipeline of loyal donors who will maintain United Way Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County (UWGMWC) high on their philanthropic priority list throughout their lifetime. Other responsibilities include overseeing Retire United, a United Way Donor Network focused on engaging community members who are retired, or will retire soon.  The successful candidate for this position will be outward facing, goal oriented, and will demonstrate exceptional professionalism and discretion.
 
Tocqueville Society Relationship Building & Prospect Identification
This position will identify, cultivate, solicit and manage the portfolio of Tocqueville Donors ($10,000 +) and Prospects as well as design the strategy to recruit, cultivate and/or steward major gifts donors and qualified prospects through the use of marketing materials. This position works collaboratively with Resources Development Account Managers and staff identifying major gift prospects, as well as planning events and engagement opportunities.
 
Planned Giving Program Management
The candidate will work with the Manager, Individual Engagement, to assist, identify, and build a robust planned giving strategy while maintaining and documenting a program outline, strategy and timeline for Planned Giving. Assist in developing a recognition and cultivation strategy for current Legacy Society members including annual touchpoints. Coordinate President & CEO and UWGMWC leadership meetings when applicable.
 
Retire United – Donor Network Management
Identify prospects and manage recruitment and relationships and provide excellent customer service to approximately 30 Retire United Council members, who include many top community leaders and high-level donors. Secure and manage all Retire United events and manage program sponsorships and set fundraising and events goals annually while ensuring that account data is collected and input into United Way’s donor database.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
 
  • Bachelor’s degree related to marketing, sales, management or business, human services, or philanthropy
  • 10-12 years related experience, or equivalent experience directly related to fundraising with a specific focus on major gifts and planned giving preferred.
  • Proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts, including high dollar value gifts.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective planned giving strategies. 
  • High Comfort level interfacing with business and community leaders, plus strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse audiences.
