The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
JOB SUMMARY:
The CSIS Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies aims to unlock the full potential of the U.S.-India relationship and leads the Center's work on India. The Chair serves as an independent platform to pursue policy changes that strengthen bilateral ties, placing special emphasis on accelerating economic development in India and promoting greater business and economic engagement between the two countries. The CSIS Wadhwani Chair has also become the world's leading authority on state-level political-economic issues in India, leading multiple funded projects to expand subnational engagement with India.
CSIS is currently seeking candidates for full-time internships with the India Chair beginning May 6th at the earliest. Interns will focus on advancing our Indian States Health Innovation project, and our project to boost U.S.-India higher education partnerships. Applicants from the universities in the Washington, D.C. area that can receive financial support for the internship from their university are welcome to apply. Paid internships are also available for those who do not have such financial support programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Wadhwani Chair Program is recruiting interns to support critical projects the Chair is undertaking. Interns will primarily be responsible for helping with three main tasks:
* Assisting with the Chair's business development efforts, particularly by cultivating opportunities, crafting grant requests and proposals, and liaising with the CSIS development team, the Chair's staff, and external funders;
* Collaborating with our outreach team to organize and extensive database of policymakers, experts, and funders in the United States and India;
* Supporting the Chair's social media and newsletter campaigns by employing new strategies to boost engagement across various mediums, including Facebook, Twitter, and Mailchimp.
In addition, interns will be given opportunities to assist with events hosted by the program, contribute to the program's social media presence, publish India-specific material for CSIS's Asia Blog, and provide general support.
Interns must be highly motivated, professional, and have a demonstrated interest in India and/or South Asia with some prior academic or professional experience working on the region. We operate a fast-paced, dynamic program, and require interns who are detail-oriented and can work independently or as part of a team. Strong preference will be given to candidates who:
* Demonstrate excellent writing and research skills
* Possess a deep grasp of political, economic, and regulatory changes India, as well as India's foreign relations, especially with the United States
* Have a positive attitude and outstanding communication/interpersonal skills
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Applicants that have recently completed or are currently enrolled in a Master's program are preferred
* Strong writing skills are critical - a background in editing is preferred
* Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution
* Must be eligible to work in the United States and commit at least 35 hours per week (no part-time interns, yes?
* Must have strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
* Must have the ability to work independently with minimal oversight
* Must have demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines
* Must have an academic or professional background in India
* Hindi language ability not required but highly desirable
