Job Description
Summary
 
This position is responsible for inspecting intricate apparatuses, machines and equipment.  Work requires a thorough knowledge of mechanical principles, inspection techniques, with a high degree of judgment and attention to detail. The inspector will effectively read and interpret blueprints and dimensions as to critical, major and minor characteristics. The inspector will approve or reject products/components and make final inspections of and test machines for acceptable standards of performance. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  1. Inspect incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests and rejecting/returning unacceptable materials
  2. Inspect in-process production, components, subassemblies and assemblies by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests and communicating required adjustments to supervisor.
  3. Inspect finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests and returning products for re-work as required.
  4. Document inspection results into the quality database.
  5. Maintain measurement equipment by following operating instructions, calibrations and repairs.
  6. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following all standards and procedures.
  7. Accomplish quality and manufacturing schedule by completing related results as needed.
  8. Use precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, and CMM, to ensure product meets specifications.
  9. Locate reference point(s) on part and measure dimension such as angle, arc, and radii, using combinations of aids, such as surface plate parallel bars, angle plates, gauge blocks, plug pins, V blocks, sine bars, and precision measuring instruments such as CMM, to ensure product meets specifications.
  10. Visually compare work pieces against one another to assess/detect manufacturing variations in processes and finish.
  11. Assist and/or train operators on part visual acceptability, measurement and process procedures as required.
  12. Maintain records, hard copies and software programs of inspections and interacts with other departments to ensure compliance with specification and to facilitate the acceptance of parts.
  13. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  14. Some travel to inspect or CMM on site, customers and suppliers.
