GTRI's Co-operative Education ("co-op") program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school. Housing and relocation assistance are not available.

The Food Processing Technology Division at GTRI is looking for a co-op student who is self-motivated and interested in gaining real world experience with software development in the areas of image processing, automation, robotics, as well as hardware/software systems integration. Applicants should have some computer programming exposure (C++ and/or Python is preferred) and be willing to learn. Work activities will involve being part of a project team that supports the research and development activities in the Division. Applicants will need to have a current driver's license in good standing. We are looking for creative and motivated students who are willing to learn and contribute on exciting research projects. The immediate work may involve C++ image processing and robot control for various applications, including object detection and modeling, using robot arms and mobile robots, and using sensors such as the Kinect and other 2D and 3D cameras

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (preferred), Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
  • Must be registered for co-op credit with your university
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Commit to alternating three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with with semesters of full-time academic coursework
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Python/C++ and other programming languages
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools
  • Configuration management tools
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas non-technically
