MEAL SITE MANAGER - SUBSTITUTE (8 - 12 weeks per year)

Washington County, located in West Bend Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity for a substitute Meal Site Manager within the Washington County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). ADRC is a place where information, assistance, and access to services and community resources are in one central place for seniors and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Under the routine supervision of the Elder Nutrition and Wellness Supervisor, the substitute Meal Site Manager organizes and supervises the serving of nutritious meals to older adults. This position will work on an "as needed" basis as a substitute for the regular Meal Site Manager at various sites. The majority of the weeks needing coverage will be in the summer, so candidates that are only available during the summer will be considered. The hours when working as the substitute Meal Site Manager are typically 9am - 1pm.

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • Basic reading, writing and math skills.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous work experience.
  • A valid Wisconsin driver's license, available automobile, and automobile insurance are required.


Starting hourly rate ranges from $11.99 - $12.65 based on experience. There are no benefits available because this a limited position.

Position Summary:

Under the routine supervision of the Elder Nutrition and Wellness Supervisor, substitute Meal Site Manager organizes and supervises the serving of nutritious meals to older adults.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Completes intake forms for new program participants.
  • Checks the quantity and quality of food (including temperatures) upon arrival and reports any problems to the Elder Nutrition and Wellness Supervisor.
  • Insures that food is kept hot and/or properly refrigerated until serving time, maintaining standards of food safety and sanitation.
  • Supervises the set-up, serving, and clean-up activities of the meal site volunteers, participating when needed.
  • Supervises/assists with the packaging and delivery of meals to the homebound participants, reporting emergency situations needing immediate attention.
  • Coordinates the weekly schedule for home delivered meal volunteer drivers.
  • Maintains daily attendance records and oversees participant donations.
  • Insures the safety of both home delivered and congregate participants that do not show by calling their home and/or emergency contact.
  • Assists those individuals needing help through the food line, helps carry trays, opens milk cartons, etc., as needed.
  • Accurately determines the number of meals to be ordered each day and notifies the Nutrition Program Director by 12:30 p.m.
  • Prepares daily reports on food temperatures, discrepancies, attendance, and donations collected, and submits to the Nutrition Program Manager.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of condiments and supplies.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who assist with the congregate and home delivered meal programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

Work Direction Received:

Works under the routine supervision of the Elder Nutrition and Wellness Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

Oversees the work of volunteers at meal sites.

Decision Making:

Decisions concerning work assignments for volunteers, heating and refrigeration of food as necessary, and other daily activities are made independently.

Interaction:

There is interaction with meal site managers, meal site volunteers, volunteer drivers, home delivered meal participants, and participants using the meal center.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of food serving methods, sanitation regulations, and special needs of senior citizens. Ability to oversee the work of volunteers, prepare and maintain accurate reports, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and interact effectively with volunteers and senior citizens. Able to fulfill physical demands of job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).

Training and Experience:
