Job Description
Do you enjoy all aspects of accounting, especially at a non-profit organization?  Do you have a special place in your heart for children of all ages?  If you answered yes, St. Joseph Academy wants to hear from you!  We are currently looking for a Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Department at St. Joseph Academy. 

St. Joseph Academy is a Catholic educational organization sponsored by the Felician Sisters. Our mission is to educate children to be successful life-long learners and problem solvers. We are guided by the Felcian values for Ministry: Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Justice and Peace, Transformation and Solidarity with the Poor. We partner with families and community to fulfill this mission. The Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) serves children 6 weeks through 12 years old. Our school now offers K4-8th grade. 
                           
Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs accounts payable coding and cash management
  • Performs cash reconciliations, payroll review and journal entry preparation
  • Coordinates and/or participates in special projects as identified by managers
  • Provides support for agency budget and audit preparation
  • Provides back up support for accounts receivable function
  • Completes reporting for various state funded programs
  • Assists with financial analysis, variances and trend analysis
  • Monthly closings and financial reporting
  • Participates in mandatory meetings to improve teamwork, communication, and problem solving
  • Back-up for billing of accounts and processing payroll
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in accounting
  • 2 years experience in general accounting; non-profit experience a plus
  • Must be flexible and a team player with excellent response and interpersonal skills
  • Organized and capable of handling demands effectively while efficiently providing support to multiple individuals
  • Prioritize and remain focused while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and implement solutions
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and effectively interact with staff members, families, supervisors in a clear and friendly way
  • Ability to respond positively to work direction and guidance from others
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple duties
  • Able to work with different types of people, including some challenging customers and employees
  • Aware of deadlines and able to meet them
  • Proficient user of MS Office software, especially Excel, and accounting software
