Job Description
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Graphic Designer to join our Marketing team.
 
Under the direction of the Creative Director, the Graphic Designer designs results-oriented, branded print, web and digital communications in collaboration with external vendors and internal business partners in support of MSOE’s strategic growth objectives. The Graphic Designer acts as a collaborative and supportive member of the Marketing and Communications team to deliver a strong, consistent and cohesive brand. Works collaboratively with key university stakeholders to develop creative, results-oriented marketing communications to support MSOE’s strategic priorities, build the institutional brand and drive enrollment and fund-raising growth.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develops materials, tools and resources that convey a consistent, high quality image and brand. Supports the university marketing strategy with the development of high quality interactive content for print, web, digital signage, social media and other emerging platforms.
  2. Design publications, periodicals, advertisements and other marketing materials  for both print and on-line use
  3. Coordinate production of artwork and other graphic elements of assigned projects to assure high quality, design and production of error-free printed materials
  4. Manage printing projects by working with internal clients to set expectations. Additionally, work with outside printers on production of printed pieces to see projects through completion.
  5. Work with photographers and external design resources/partners when needed
  6. Act as backup administrator on Marketing Central, the Marketing team’s online workflow and approval tool
  7. Work with the Creative Director and Senior Graphic Designer to organize and maintain digital and non-digital files of artwork and originals so that they are easily retrievable and kept in good condition
  8. Serve as a collaborative and supportive member of the Marketing team to deliver a strong, consistent and cohesive brand. Supports the MSOE strategic plan and marketing plan with the development of high quality interactive content for print, web, digital signage, social media and other emerging platforms.
  9. Create design extensions and variations that to build off of the university brand, extending it both internally and externally
  10. Maintain knowledge of current and upcoming trends in design software
  11. Perform other tasks as necessary to achieve the university's mission

  1. Communicate with internal and external audiences and vendors, providing feedback and input in a timely manner.
  2. Be able to conduct a professional presentation.
  3. Maintain an understanding of stated university overarching goals and objectives
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or related area of study.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of professional communications experience is required. Higher education and/or nonprofit experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of and experience in Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. As well as Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience designing for web, digital or interactive platforms is a plus.
  4. Demonstrated project management experience.
  5. Requires attention to detail, strong organizational competence, and the ability to coordinate multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.  Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and professionally respond to variations in schedules and plans. Must be self-directed with strong problem-solving skills including the ability to develop innovative approaches and ideas, and meet challenges with resourcefulness.
Language Skills
Must have the ability to read, interpret and write documents such as correspondence and guidelines. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
