The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. Leveraging the education you received already, we hope to give you an opportunity to grow and develop with us! Santa Clara's Data Science group has developed a custom kinetic/circuit simulator to model raw signal produced by Genia's chip and the hidden events which generate that raw data. A separate effort in Deep Learning trains neural network base callers to perform primary analysis, converting Genia's raw signal to a sequence of labels and quality scores. A third group within data science works on visualization of both experimental and simulated data in a custom Data Visualization tool. The proposed internship activity would involve a small, but interesting, project at the interface of these three efforts. While not on the critical path for Nanopore Sequencer development milestones, the project has the potential to yield new and useful insights about our platform and networks used to interpret its data. Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.
