Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:    The radiology coordinator is a medical administrative assistant who supports the radiology operation of a healthcare facility. In addition to traditional administrative duties, such as monitoring telephones, scheduling appointments and greeting patients, the coordinator verifies insurance coverage, maintains patient records and, in certain environments, handles some billing responsibilities.

POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers all telephone calls, schedules and confirms patient appointments and admits patients to the department.
     
  • Records all patient information, enters it into the EMR, notating all insurance information.
     
  • May contact the insurance company to verify coverage.
     
  • Once a patient’s visit is complete, the radiology coordinator checks them out of the facility, updates the records and schedules a follow-up appointment if necessary.
     
  • Responsible maintenance of radiology records and release of information to internal and external providers for continued patient care. 
     
  • Assists patient with navigating through various services within the organization.
     
  • Monitors internal and external referrals and referral sources
     
  • Performs outreach to assist the patient in completing the referred service. 
     
  • Follows up with specialists to ensure that the organization receives the report for the referred service.
     
  • Ensures that the report is scanned into the EHR and the referring provider is notified.
     
  • Conduct outreach activities for patients lost to care.
     
  • Inform patients of our ancillary services, and schedule them with internal resources.
     
  • Keep patients informed of progress of scheduled appointments.
     
  • Monitor of patients’ adherence to their medical appointments.
     
  • Responsible for reporting department volume including Demand, Access, Capacity and Productivity.
     
  • Assist the patient in selecting a Primary Care Provider (PCP).
     
  • Offer assistance in arranging an initial visit with their PCP.
     
  • Educate the patient on the policies concerning covered services and what to do in an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

To successfully perform the duties of a radiology coordinator, a candidate must be interpersonally skillful. This professional interacts with colleagues and patients throughout the workday and must do so in an affable yet professional manner. When dealing with billing and patient records, it is important that close attention to detail be paid. Applicants must also have a grasp of medical terminology. Additionally, technological adeptness and the ability to learn new things quickly are important.
 
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
     
  • Interest in and conviction of purpose and aims for all programs in the organization.
     
  • Ability to communicate easily and display a cordial manner towards individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural and religious background.
