Job Description
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Creative Director to join our Marketing department.
 
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, the Creative Director provides strategic direction and project management leadership in developing and implementing strategic marketing communications for MSOE. The Creative Director works collaboratively with key university stakeholders to develop innovative and effective marketing strategies that portray a clear, strong and unified image of the university to internal and external audiences. As a "roll up your sleeves and do" leader, oversees all written and visual creative marketing communications to ensure the message, image and brand strategy is conveyed in a consistent, high quality, manner. Works collaboratively with key university stakeholders to develop creative, results-oriented marketing plans to support MSOE’s strategic priorities, build the institutional brand and drive enrollment and fund-raising growth.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Leads and drives both creative and written strategic development, alignment and execution of all corporate integrated communications including but not limited to: creative services, brand strategy, competitive assessment, traditional and digital advertising and leading agency media planning, budgeting and buying.
  2. Works directly with Executive Director of Marketing and Community Engagement to define, develop and convey a compelling and consistent brand identity and drive awareness of MSOE using paid and owned media.  Executes targeted, measureable and results oriented campaigns to support strategic goals.
  3. Develops and leads enterprise brand strategy as well as innovative and engaging advertising and media programs (traditional and digital) to achieve university objectives. Directs the creation, development and delivery of all aspects of creative and branding communications to enhance and grow the university's reputation.
  4. Stewards financial and human resources including annual budgeting and planning, coaching and development of marketing communication professionals including direct oversight of the Senior Graphic Designer and Junior Graphic Designer.
  5. Manages marketing initiatives, campaign and projects from conception through completion, working collaboratively with internal and external partners to define objectives, scope and priorities, establish timelines and achieve successful implementation. Ensures tracking and measurement of all initiatives to achieve KPIs and report results.
  6. Serve as an expert project manager who can effectively manage internal and external resources including external agency and freelance print and digital designers, creative writers, media planners and buyers and other creative resources.
  7. Works collaboratively with university leadership to develop an integrated and comprehensive marketing plan that balances MSOE’s institutional brand with support for academic, enrollment and development.

  2. Be able to conduct a professional presentation.
  3. Maintain an understanding of stated university overarching goals and objectives
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related area of study.
  2. A minimum of five years of professional communications experience is required. Higher education and/or nonprofit experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of and experience in Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. As well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  4. Demonstrated leadership experience.
  5. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to articulate technical information to a non-technical population. 
  6. Requires attention to detail, strong organizational competence, and the ability to coordinate multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.  Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and professionally respond to variations in schedules and plans. Must be self-directed with strong problem-solving skills including the ability to develop innovative approaches and ideas, and meet challenges with resourcefulness.
  7. Technical expertise and/or experience in engineering, industrial and/or manufacturing process is a plus.
Language Skills
Must have the ability to read, interpret, write, create and complete documents such as reports, newsletters, general correspondence, and training materials or guidelines. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
