This temporary position, Craftsman Aide, Gas/Water/Electric in our Facilities department contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by performing skilled and semi-skilled craftsman duties throughout the park in order to maintain and improve Society physical facility in support of the Society's goals to be financial sustainable, provide a safe, enjoyable, and aesthetically pleasing experience for guests, to assure satisfactory physical environments for the animals, and a satisfactory work spaces for staff. Ensures exhibits and facilities are functional, in a well maintained state, and support the Society's communication objectives.
Responsibilities: Perform skilled and semi-skilled crafts duties throughout the park with direct guidance. Learn operating procedures of the Chicago Zoological Society. Assure work performed meets section standards, client specifications, applicable codes and standards, and program goals and is aesthetically pleasing to guests. This includes routine craftsman tasks, as well as those associated with preventative maintenance, special repair projects, capital construction, special events, emergency and safety, unanticipated special repairs, unanticipated capital projects and overhead as directed. Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships and work cooperatively with peers, managers, and clients. Adhere to Plant & Facilities section's quality control standards. Ensure all work performed meets set standards and specifications and complies with established quality control standards. Perform duties associated with the section's overhead operating program including following the Labor Allocation Sheet system and completing daily labor allocation sheets, with direct guidance, attending attend and participating in meetings as assigned. Follow the section's Standard Operating Procedures and carry out associated tasks, as directed, including equipment and shop maintenance, inventory and purchasing, facility surveys and utility locations. Participate in the section's emergency response and animal welfare programs as assigned. Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Participation in a relevant, accredited training program or 1-2 years relevant experience at the journeyman level in work group field. Ability to read, write and perform all required math commensurate with field of responsibility. Familiarity with relevant codes related field preferred. Must be able to perform all tasks related to field and possess skills in related fields. May require specialty training, certifications, licenses and/or experience in a specific skill area(s) depending on the position or work assignment, such as, but not limited to: carpentry, painting, welding, plumbing, HVAC, electric/water/gas, and/or life support systems. Ability to work in a team-oriented fashion. Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents. One or more of the following licensures may be required: Valid "C" or "B" (CDL) Driver's License. Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
