The Sr. Product Engineer for Actuant Electrical in Menomonee Falls, WI will develop and design battery charges for marine, industrial OEM and professional distribution markets. Understand customers' product needs and market conditions. Provide accurate technical information for all charger product lines. Analyze and understand the competitors' products. Project plans and schedules from conception through design, development and evaluation. These projects will involve new products, design improvement and value engineering on existing products having a significant impact on the company's operations.

Key responsibilities of this individual are:

  • Works with marketing to develop next generation battery charger requirements.
  • Leads battery charger design projects from clean sheet concept through first manufacturing production run.
  • Develops charging algorithms for various storage batteries.
  • Develops performance criteria, evaluates test plans, and reviews data to assure product meet market expectations and appropriate regulation.
  • With Global Sourcing, identifies and assesses potential China based electronic assembly and manufacturing companies.
  • Works with Quality Department on PPAP requirements.
  • Analyzes and approves any product changes.
  • Provides cost analysis on products where components, features or suppliers change.
  • Stays current in the status of competitive products and evaluates these products to maintain the company's competitive position.
  • Assists in the preparation of instruction sheets and repair manuals assuring their technical accuracy.
  • Represents the department in a technical capacity including providing engineering data, serving on committees and reviewing of various items requiring engineering input.
  • All other responsibilities assigned by management.

Qualified individuals will possess the following attributes:

  • MS or BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience.
  • Perform all aspects of the design of switch mode power supplies/battery chargers up to 2000 watts. This includes: Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS), Strong proven analog and digital circuit design capabilities, and Experience in industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of transformer magnetic, inductor chokes and emi filter design.
  • Knowledge of heat sink design and thermal management.
  • Knowledge of storage battery charging characteristics.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller software and firmware.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and gather information for projects, hold meetings and professionally communicate both orally and in writing with a all departments.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must be able to communicate teleponically and electronically with team members and leaders of supported organizatons.
  • Must be able to hear/undertand/speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
  • Must be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including the ability to travel by air/auto to remote sites.
