All Nursing Assistants must be STATE and FEDERALLY certified.
ALL NURSING ASSISTANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ANY SHIFT, WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS AS REQUIRED. Part-time vacancies are located at the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or high school equivalency diploma preferred. Federal and State C.N.A. certification at time of application and must be maintained during incumbency. Experience in the care of medically ill, mentally ill or developmentally disabled persons preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of nursing assisting policies, procedures and protocols; ability to understand and follow both written and oral directions; ability to work with the aged and population specific patients and families; ability to recognize and deal with patients’ behavioral problems; ability to work in stressful situations; problem solving ability; ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds; ability to assist in moving, transferring and lifting patients up to 200 pounds; ability to walk to all areas of assigned units and hospital; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with co-workers.
Duties: Under supervision, to perform a variety of routine duties in caring for medically ill, mentally ill or developmentally disabled patients at the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division; to provide standards of care in accordance with program and regulatory requirements; to assist patients and/or residents with the activities of daily living; to observe, record and report changes in patient’s behavior and/or physical condition; to perform basic nursing care procedures; to follow nursing departments and program policy and procedures for care of patients/residents in seclusion and/or restraints, and on behavioral and suicidal observation status; to respond to emergency medical and behavioral situations; to accurately monitor vital signs; to participate in active treatment programs directed toward the rehabilitation of patients; to work with the aged and population specific patients with medical and emotional problems in assigned clinical program; to maintain therapeutic interpersonal relationships with patients, families and coworkers; to maintain personal hygienic practices; to assist in moving, transferring and lifting patients up to 200 pounds; to assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients and/or residents; to provide for and participate in activities necessary for the maintenance of a safe, clean, orderly, and attractive environment; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.

In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a noncompetitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
