Position Description
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision, is responsible for transcribing and typing medical documents in accordance with medicolegal, confidentiality, quality assurance and customer service standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Transcribes medical dictation and correspondence from physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide a permanent record of patient care.
2. Maintains files to ensure timely retrieval of information.
3. Formats, types and edits correspondence, reports, patient notes, etc. from machine dictation or written form.
4. Proofreads and edits transcription and medical records for completeness and accuracy.
5. Operates office machines including computers, dictation equipment, scanners, fax and copier machines.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis
Education: High School diploma. Medical Transcription technical diploma preferred.
Experience: 2 years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Must have knowledge of medical terminology and transcription. Ability to plan and organize work according to established priorities. Need to be detail oriented. Able to complete assignments accurately within established deadlines. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work effectively in a stressful, deadline driven environment. Ability to maintain confidentially.
