Job Description - Auditing & Accounting Senior Accountant

Senior accountants will perform compilations, reviews, and audits with a minimum of supervision. He or she should be able to work independently, supervise and instruct assistants in the work to be performed, review their completed work and advise them as to necessary revisions in their work. This individual is able to make decisions on routine accounting and auditing matters. When non-routine issues arise, the senior accountant provides an overview of the issue(s) and makes recommendation(s) to the manager or shareholder for their decision. Senior accountants are able to develop work programs and time budgets on jobs they have previously handled and direct assistants to employ methods which will accomplish compilation, review and audit objectives.

Essential Functions:

Supervise and train assistants in a manner consistent with Kolb+Co. SC goals and objectives. Evaluate and review workpapers. Prepare and review staff on large engagements.

Prepare chart of accounts.

Prepare compilation, review and audit programs.

Review internal controls.

Plan audit and review field work, perform analytical review procedures, assess materiality, develop substantive audit procedures, perform substantive audit procedures, review and discuss internal controls, evaluate audit results and take job to completion.

Review activity subsequent to balance sheet date to determine need for disclosures.

Draft reports in the proper format.

Obtain necessary information and write footnotes including disclosures relating to accounting principles, debt, leases, related party transactions, pension and profit sharing plans, consolidation policies, foreign currency and income taxes.

Review and update the client's permanent file.

Draft management letters.

Prepare routine individual income tax returns.

Prepare routine corporate and shareholdership tax returns of clients for whom you have performed the accounting and auditing services.

Suggest client tax planning ideas to manager or shareholder and assist in developing tax plans.

Strive to meet time budgets.

Follow jobs through to completion.

Work effectively with client personnel over the phone or in person at our office or at the client's office.

Inform superiors of all important developments on engagements.

Exhibit proficiency in standard computer applications software based on usage requirements. Assist in developing training aids and acting as an instructor in software and accounting related functions.

Perform all of the duties of a staff accountant if one is not assigned.

Assist where necessary in client billing functions.

Become involved in some promotional/community activity(ies).

Position Requirements:

Bachelors Degree with accounting major plus two years of experience as a staff accountant required. CPA designation or in the process of passing the CPA examination also required. Prefer with background working with construction clients.
