Position Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general direction develops, improves and implements a variety of laboratory techniques and performs complex experiments to contribute to the timely completion of data.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Develop and perform lab research procedures, and carry out routine complex experiments.

2. Develop and apply standard quality control procedures to assure quality of test results.

3. Demonstrate quality control procedures, provide individual instruction and may indirectly supervise other lab personnel as required.

4. Participate in meetings with Principal Investigator and research staff to evaluate, interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies and evaluate lab procedures.

5. Create and maintain timely accurate records.

6. Operate, calibrate, perform and supervise routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research laboratories.

7. Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principle Investigator.

Perform other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field

Experience: 3 years of related experience.

Understand scientific approach and methodologies.
Understand general and specific laboratory procedures.
Ability to use independent judgment.
Ability to follow research methodology and protocol.
Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
