Job Title: 2nd Shift Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Job Standards:
  • Seventeen (17) years of age or older.
  • Current CNA certification.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written documentation and instruction related to services.  Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing.
  • Ability to safely perform all essential job functions without causing harm to self or others with or without reasonable accommodations.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Adheres to the philosophy, policies, mission, and procedures of St. Camillus.
  • Understands and supports the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Understands and supports the St. Camillus Customer Service Expectations.
  • Adheres to established safety policies and procedures regarding staff and residents.
  • Performs and records basic resident care per policy and procedure such as:
    • Complete and partial baths
    • Oral hygiene
    • Grooming, including nails, hair, shaving and appropriate clothing
    • Toileting - bedpan, urinals
    • Bowel and bladder retraining
  • Assists resident to ensure their nutritional needs are met including:
  • Distributes resident trays, nourishments, fresh water or other fluids/supplements assuring that resident is receiving correct diet.
  • Assists with feeding and completes calorie counts
  • Records intake, appetite, I & O, and reports changes to the nurse
  • Empties urinary drainage bags and records output
  • Weighs resident, standing, wheelchair and bed scales, and records.
  • Takes vital signs and reports to nurse: oral, axillary, and rectal temperature; pulse; and respirations.
  • Maintains resident room and belongings in a clean and orderly condition by disposing of soiled linens, emptying garbage, and maintaining supplies.
  • Monitors CNA CareTracker for accuracy.
  • Collects urine and stool specimens.
  • Applies elastic stockings, ace wraps, support devices, sequential teds, and splints per policy and procedure.
  • Assists with resident positioning, transferring, and ambulation.
    • Uses gait belt for transfers/ambulation of residents.
    • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics.
    • Ambulates/transfers with appropriate number of personnel or lift device per CareTracker.
    • Performs ROM.
    • Positions residents appropriately to maintain proper body alignment.
  • Orients resident to unit and room on admission and assists with discharge.
  • Answers all resident call lights in a timely manner to determine resident needs and relays information to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Practices infection control measures per policy and procedure:
  • Appropriate skin care regimes shall be followed.
  • Proper cleaning of resident supplies and community areas shall be followed to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Appropriate linen handling shall be followed.
  • Individual storage units shall be maintained according to standards, e.g. toothbrush and combs separate.
  • Universal precautions are followed.
  • Hand washing is frequent and at appropriate times.
  • Isolation precautions are followed per CDC guidelines.
  • Establishes and maintains open/supportive/collaborative communication with peers, other members of health team, residents, and families. Promotes a working environment that encourages teamwork.
  • Works collaboratively with nurse and reports changes in physical and psychosocial status of the residents in a timely manner.
  • Attends or reads Minutes of all inservices and both unit and campus-wide meetings.
  • Attends/participates in continuing education opportunities to meet twelve-hour (12-hour) federal requirement per year.
  • Gathers and communicates resident care information to team leader on a timely basis. Reports changes/differences in resident status/condition in a timely manner.
  • Maintains resident confidentiality and follows all HIPAA guidelines.
  • Participates in activities and group functions with residents.
  • Adheres to the chain of command for follow-up.
  • Participates in annual Skills Fair.
  • Participates in New Employee Orientation as directed.
