What You'll Do

Who We Need

Corporate strategy is core to BCG's heritage and DNA and is constantly evolving in response to changing macro dynamics, industry-specific trends, and client needs. We need an Expert Project Leader/Associate Director to help drive a rebuild of our corporate strategy capabilities - first integrating and synthesizing all of the terrific IP that we have developed across the firm in our 61 year history, and then pushing the envelope to develop new conceptual frameworks, analytical approaches, and data & tools to enable the next generation of strategists at BCG. In parallel, we need this expert to also work hand-in-hand with our case teams, assisting them in navigating and deploying our best-in-class strategy capabilities and making sure we are consistently bringing the best of BCG to our clients.

OUR EXPERT CONSULTING TRACK (ECT)

As an Expert Project Leader/Associate Director, you will be integrated into a BCG team and leverage your deep expertise on projects that reshape businesses. You will be given end-to-end responsibility for large and complex "modules" within a BCG project and may lead small but high-impact teams to drive results for our clients. You will work closely with clients to understand their issues, create strategies for change, and win buy-in for your recommendations, while also collaborating with colleagues on complex client issues. Your expertise will be valued by senior clients and you will help build and contribute to BCG's intellectual capital while spending significant time supporting and executing case work. Expert Project Leaders/Associate Directors contribute significantly to BCG's intellectual capital, generate interest and excitement about their expertise area, and coach and mentor others.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

You will serve as an expert focused on helping clients develop corporate strategies, and helping BCG build the Corporate Strategy topic, juggling a wide variety of activities and roles. Some of these will include:

Client Service (~50-60%): you will serve as an active member of BCG project teams to help bring our best-in-class Corporate Strategy capabilities to our clients, using a variety of tools and approaches. This will be on dedicated Corporate Strategy branded projects, but could also be an important piece of bringing Corporate Strategy frameworks and approaches to a broad variety of projects, including growth, strategic planning, shareholder value, and strategic M&A and due diligence. You will at times be a hands-on project manager staffed 60-100% for specific periods of time (e.g. several weeks to several months), overseeing project teams and ensuring top-notch work. At other times you will engage with BCG teams and clients as an expert advisor with smaller time allocation.

Topic development (~30-40%): you will work closely with the senior team leading the Corporate Strategy topic to grow the business. This means helping develop new publications, IP, tools and approaches, and then ensuring the internal and external promotion of those as well. As we have marketing and project successes, you will help the topic grow by sharing and building upon them, developing and giving presentations, raising awareness and ensuring Corporate Strategy remains a priority within BCG and in the corporate and public-sector world. You will work closely with our knowledge team as well, helping oversee them as they curate our casework and IP.

Business development (~10%): you will support business development, bringing Corporate Strategy to a wide variety of settings and supporting proposal work. You could focus on specific types and/or sectors where you have experience. We seek entrepreneurs with an interest in growing the business.

In addition, we are looking for candidates with:
  • Five years or more of work experience in strategy, and the ability to leverage expertise to develop new proprietary IP
  • Prior experience leading corporate strategy work, ie enterprise strategy, M&A strategy, TSR strategy, portfolio strategy, etc
  • Fluency / familiarity with corporate finance (accounting, valuation, financial policies, etc)

In this role you will be a part of our Expert Consulting Team that works with Corporate Finance & Strategy cadre members across North America and will report to the Corporate & Portfolio Strategy Global Topic Leader.

YOU'LL BE BASED IN:
US: Chicago is the preferred location but the team is flexible to any US city where BCG currently has an office.

YOU'LL BE TRAVELING:
Moderate travel is anticipated and will vary based on specific project locations
