Seeking Experienced Scientist with Product Development Interest/Experience

Location: St. Paul, MN (on-site)

Scientists at H.B. Fuller successfully execute projects that involve patentable or proprietary technology for existing strategic markets and for research projects aimed at product line development or advancement. They contribute to the planning and designing of research involving adhesive technologies such as polyurethanes, epoxies, acrylates, silicones, water-based emulsions, and thermoplastic resins. This position will support all three Global Business Units (GBUs) that are made up of many market segments including Personal Care, Packaging, Building Construction, Automotive, Aerospace, and Electronics Adhesives. This position will have a strong focus on improving the sustainability of our products and helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals. In this position the ability to collaborate and communicate across cultures, disciplines and functions is highly valued. We are looking for Ph.D.'s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Material Science to fill the Senior Scientist role.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: Planning and leading large-scale research and development projects, using project management discipline, design of experiment (DOE) methodologies and statistical analysis to draw conclusions and present solutions based on understanding of structure-property-performance relationships. Generating new product, process, or method concepts within an area of specialty. Preparing and presenting reports to customers and business leaders. Supporting operations to facilitate scale-up and efficient production of developed technologies. Fulfilling responsibilities as required by the Quality System for the site/business unit. Working in a safe and efficient manner.

Minimum Requirements:

* PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.

* 0- 3 years experience in relevant industry

* Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret standard scientific theories, concepts, and techniques in a scientific or engineering specialty.

* Demonstrated ability to work on a wide range of problems where causal relationships are difficult to establish, and the use of creative thinking is required.

* Demonstrated ability to generate new product, process, or method concepts within an area of specialty.

* Capability to plan and lead large scale projects using project management discipline.

* Demonstrated ability to leverage Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical tools to drive projects.

* Ability to deliver internal and customer presentations in a professional manner.

Preferred Requirements:

* PhD in organic chemistry or polymer/material science with an emphasis on synthesis and characterization of organic small molecules and polymeric materials

* Expertise in synthetic techniques and labware (e.g. Schlenk techniques, distillation/vacuum distillation, multi-stage reactions, and reaction monitoring)

* Experience using NMR, FTIR spectroscopy, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) as well as size exclusion chromatography to monitor reaction progress and characterize intermediates/final products

* Excellent working knowledge of common and named reactions in organic chemistry

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $85,000 - 105,000.
