CHEESE LAB MANAGER - APPLICATIONS

Job Description: Chr. Hansen, Inc. (part of Novonesis Group) inMilwaukee, WI, is seeking a Cheese Lab Manager - Applications. This position is primarily responsible for managing the activities of the Applications Laboratory to ensure quality of Cheese Applications (FC&E) Technical Service Request (TSR) submissions in a timely manner. This position also serves as a liaison between Innovation, Sales and Marketing. Manages and prioritizes test requests and generates reports summarizing monthly activity. Designs lab experiments and field trial evaluations within area of expertise. Builds a high performing work team of three direct reports and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Develops and encourages the growth of employee's skills through training and opportunities. Provides technical support to the sales force through the development of effective product and capabilities presentations to key/strategic customers. Integrates and promotes the organization's full range of ingredients in new product concepts. Conducts TSRs, report summaries, technical reports and issuance of peer-reviewed publications. Applies statistical analysis to the data generated and comes to an outcome. Completes and maintains all required paperwork, computer record keeping, data books and other documentation. Organizes and maintains laboratory filing system(s). Helps to maintain computer inventories of materials relevant to the area of work (raw materials, finished products, chemicals, etc.) Reads and writes comprehensive reports and professional correspondence for both internal research and external customer support. Develops the fiscal year budget for the laboratory based on past and future work trends. Calculates billing to the various departments who use the service. Domestic and international travel approximately 10% of the time, for training, networking, and stakeholder support.

Qualifications: Requires master's degree in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or food/dairy science. Requires 10 years of experience, which must include: 10 years of experience making administrative, procedural or employment related decisions in a dynamic environment; 3 years of experience developing and managing a staff of professional scientists and technicians to achieve multiple project results; 10 years of experience complying with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), and company Safety guidelines, as part of the product development process, ensuring the team is also in compliance; 10 years of experience managing and/or leading multiple short-term and long-term projects at one time; 2 years of experience with SAP.
