Solutions Architect

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: The Solution Architect plays a vital role in implementing the credit union's information technology strategy, vision, and roadmap. The candidate collaborates across several technology groups to ensure that the proposed technical solutions and strategy align with the IT roadmap and objectives and support the credit union's mission and vision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with Enterprise Architects and Developers to designsolutions supporting the strategic IT roadmap
  • Conducts proofs-of-concept (POCs) to evaluate vendor technologies and proposed solutions
  • Provides guidance on design patterns and implementations to developers
  • Trains and coaches a highly skilled and engaged development staff
  • Partners with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions
  • Leads the design and modeling of solutionarchitectures for delivery, development, and support of projects
  • Partners with engineers to provide a scalable, secure, performant and adaptable application architecture
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on the assigned systems and/or projects
  • Presents architectural designs and software solutions to technical and business audiences including Senior IT Management and the Architecture Review Board
  • Analyzes existing systems, processes and architectures and makes recommendations for improvement
  • Serves as advisor and mentor for IT staff
  • Researches and develops new technologies, evaluates tools and software, and implements working prototypes
  • Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects and presents to management
  • Serves as technical expert to other teams or to partners within other business units
  • Performs other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in object-oriented software engineering. Significant, large scale project experience may be substituted for number of years.
  • 6+ years of experience designing architectural solutions for APIs, Digital Transformations, Data Integrations and Cloud Technologies.
  • Financial Services/Banking experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of current IT trends and developments.
  • Ability to lead, influence and facilitate technical solutions to meet business needs.
  • Familiarity with DevOps processes.
  • Knowledgeable in microservices architecture, RESTful/Web APIs, Relational Databases and Front-End Technologies (JavaScript, React, Angular, etc.)

Skills

  • Ability to "think big" and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups including ability to share knowledge, resolve conflict and build consensus among many stakeholders
  • Broad, in-depth working knowledge of various business components and understand dependencies and linkages of major business processes, products, systems, networks, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to fulfill the role of teacher, mentor and coach
  • Positive outlook, strong work ethic, and responsiveness to internal and external customers and contacts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to take principled bets on new technology
  • Ability to establish, implement, and enforce appropriate IT standards to meet business requirements
  • A solid understanding of the financial services industry and the laws and regulations that govern and/or impact the credit union is a plus.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and social sensitivity are required. The candidate comes into contact with employees on all levels of the organization.The candidate is a resource to the organization and must be an effective listener and communicator.The candidate must set the example in attitude, behavior, and work ethic.

Computer Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of OOA&D, design patterns, software architecture, systems integration concepts and frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience with modern enterprise software development
  • Advanced level expertise using SQL Server or other enterprise database platforms
  • Strong knowledge of networking, computing platform, storage, database, security, middleware, network and systems management, and related infrastructure technologies and practices
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Project, Team Foundation Server, Power Point, Excel, Windows Server, SharePoint, Visual Studio, SSRS/SSIS
