Position Description

Reporting directly to Modine's VP/GM ACA (Air Cooled Applications), the Venture Technologies Business Unit Leader will lead their team in developing ACA's adjacent market growth strategy driven by 80/20, market segmentation, new market / technology identification, and innovation to improve profitability and drive value creation. With P&L accountability and full strategic and tactical responsibility for the performance of the team, they are accountable to deliver sustained, profitable commercial growth into near adjacent high growth, high margin markets by leveraging Modine's unique solutions, technical expertise, and extensive relationships with pedigree OEM customers.

The Venture Technologies GM is a business unit leader and will provide the leadership required to continually energize their team and grow the business through the development and execution of market-driven strategic plans. This leader will utilize strategy deployment, project management, and influence for successful implementation of the strategy across the ACA business vertical, with the intent of seeding additional business unit(s).

The position is part of the ACA Leadership Team and will work on both greenfield markets and with existing market sector GMs (across Modine) to profitably grow our vertical business into new applications / markets. As a General Manager, this role's direct reports include Sales & Business Development as well as Product Development and Application Engineering.

Our global ACA vertical currently conducts business in North America, Europe, South America, and Asia (China, India, Korea). The air cooled products supporting this business are currently manufactured in 9 dedicated plants and serve 7 end markets: Power Generation, Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Commercial Vehicle, Automotive and Power Sports. The initial scope of this position is to leverage our "automotive-grade" products into near adjacent (non-vehicular) opportunities, leverage our thermal management experience to deliver new-to-the-world technology, and to exploit our deep OEM/channel relationships to develop product offering adjacencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Venture Technologies GM is a business unit leader and will provide the leadership required to continually energize their team and grow the business through the development and execution of market-driven strategic plans. This leader will utilize strategy deployment, project management, and influence for successful implementation of the strategy across the ACA business vertical, with the intent of seeding additional business unit(s).
  • Attract, develop, motivate and lead a high-performing team while furthering a cohesive, collaborative culture and ensuring that the mission and core values of the company are upheld.
  • Work closely with the team to gain an in-depth knowledge of the business' end-users, channels, products, applications and supply chain partners to fully understand what drives value and competitive advantage.
  • Carefully assess near adjacent markets and the competitive landscape for new product, market and application opportunities, and provide recommended strategy on how best to equip and drive the organization to seize those opportunities through both organic and inorganic means.
  • Establish close relationships at senior levels with existing and potential customers with an ability to gain direct access to the customers' senior executive team.
  • Develop and deliver the annual operating plan (AOP) for the global Venture Technologies business.
  • Create a 3-5-year strategy to identify the major initiatives and resources required to achieve targets and position the business for sustainable growth.
  • Responsible for leading a cross functional business unit (sales, engineering, business development) to grow the business through the development and execution of a market-driven strategic plan and achieve financial and strategic results as set in the annual operating plan.
  • Promotes a culture of trust and accountability. Build / lead a dynamic organization while setting the example as a leader, coach, and mentor to strengthen the culture and skills of the team; this includes identifying and filling gaps in personnel or skills.
  • Filter new business opportunities to ensure any new business ideas meet profitability targets.
  • Influence and drive priorities across the business.
  • Travel required: Medium to high travel, 30-40%,to Modine's plants and office locations, as well as to customers, partners, and networking/VOC events, etc.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance or Business, while an MBA is preferred
  • 3-5 years' experience in directing cross-functional personnel.
  • 5-7 years of proven and progressive experience in product management, market development, strategic planning, and/or business development (organic and acquisitions).
  • Strong leadership, problem solving skills and critical thinking capability.
  • Solid business, financial, project management, and strategic planning experience.
  • Experience in the growth and professional development of people.
  • Very strong communication skills including oral, written and presentation.
  • Ability to form good working relationship with customers, co-workers and subordinates.
  • Exhibits a high degree of emotional intelligence and managerial courage.
  • A change leader who creates effective plans to promote change and knows how to manage in changing circumstances.
