Job Description
Position Summary: The Assistant Principal (AP) assists the Principal in providing professional leadership to organize, administer, supervise and evaluate St. Joseph Academy’s School Program.  The AP will assume daily operational tasks including, but not limited to: management of student discipline, classroom observation and evaluation, establishment of parent relationships, supervision of assigned staff, and coordination of school activities.  The AP will assist in development of curriculum and staff, creating an atmosphere conducive to learning.  The AP ensures budgetary guidelines are met as well as manages timecard/time off requests for School staff. The AP reports to the Principal and stands in for Principal in their absence.

Qualifications:
  • Masters in Educational Administration (preferred)
  • Valid DPI Administrator License #51 strongly preferred
  • 3+ years classroom teacher experience
  • Experience as grade level leader or school wide coordinator required; Assistant Principal experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead
  • Demonstrated ability to implement curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively supervise and evaluate staff
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic communities
  • Strong knowledge of standards, benchmarks and assessments
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including presentation skills
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment with the ability to make timely decisions
  • Detail oriented; ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient user of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and phone systems
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

Physical and Mental Requirements: (Occasionally 1% - 33% of time; frequently 34% - 66% of time; continuously 67% - 100% of time): Occasionally - lifting up to 25 pounds, Rarely  – lifting over 25 pounds, Occasionally – walking and standing, Continuously – sitting, Frequently – hand manipulation / dexterity when writing, using PC, and using other office equipment, occasionally – bending and reaching
 
Evironmental Conditions: Occasional exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to care of ill children, occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children and seasonal exposure to high humidity due to temperature control of the facility, heat and cold due to the internal and external environment.

Essential Job Functions/Duties:

  • Assists in developing and implementing school improvement plans
  • Assists Academy staff through orientation, counseling, meetings, instructional materials, curriculum development and professional development
  • Observes and evaluates instructional performance, providing frequent feedback to grow and develop Academy staff
  • Approves timecards and Paid-Time-Off for Academy Assistant Teachers
  • Oversees summer school and/or summer reading program, if applicable
  • Assists in interviewing prospective teachers and school staff
  • Assists in student assessments and qualitative and quantitative date review
  • Manage coverage of lunch period and recess duties
  • Manage coverage of pick-up and drop-off of students
  • Establish and maintain parent relationships
  • Assist in coordination  and oversight of school activities
  • Represent SJA with community partners, contacts and at community meetings.
  • Promote SJA to schools, parishes, and other community leaders and organizations.
  • Assist in new employee orientation as requested
  • Meet regularly with the Principal to insure alignment of mutual goals.
  • Manages the marquee for SJA.
  • Manages the photo releases for SJA School students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
