This position is for a newly created business segment within Modine to address the rapidly growing Electric and Fuel Cell vehicle market. Individuals in this position would be responsible for the development of new Battery Thermal Management systems (BTMS), Passenger Thermal Management Systems (PTMS), Electronics Cooling Package (ECP) technologies and components for Electric Vehicles (EV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). A typical BTMS would consist of heat exchangers & electric components like compressors, heater, coolant pumps, E-fans, sensors, a wire harness and master controller. A typical ECP would consist of heat exchangers like a radiator for electronics cooling and condenser for cabin cooling, E-fans, a wire harness and master controller.
This position reports to a Product Engineering Supervisor or Product Engineering Section Manager.
- Develop new Battery Thermal Management System, (BTMS), Passenger Thermal Management Systems (PTMS) and Electronics Cooling Package (ECP) concepts
- Development of new electric components like Compressors, Heaters, Coolant pumps, E-Fan, Sensors, Valve etc.
- Specify test requirements and analyze test results on assigning products to validate performance and durability of new and revised designs.
- Determine design alternatives and optimize for cost, durability, performance, and/or manufacturability goals.
- Interact with application, manufacturing, materials, and virtual technology, CAD design, cost estimating, sales, manufacturing plants, and the test labs to develop new designs.
- Plan and manage prototype builds and validation testing to ensure the new product goals have been met.
- Maintain project financials within approved expenditures and be accountable for cost overruns requiring justification and approval for additional expenditures.
- Release documentation including models, drawings, specifications, and predictive computer modeling tools for newly developed products
- Value Add, Value Engineer support for continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities in the plants
- Problem resolution for production programs and new launches
- College graduate in Mechanical OR Electrical engineering or related technical discipline with limited work experience or 2 - 7 years equivalent experience in the specified engineering discipline
- A basic understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics and 2-phase refrigerant systems is required.
- Knowledge of structural design, manufacturing processes and computer methods are necessary.
- Knowledge of HV & LV Electrical components would be desired.
- Prior Experience in the EV market and/or Thermal Management system design would be beneficial
- CAD software (Pro/E, UG, SolidEdge, or similar), KULI, and computer programming experience is beneficial and preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal is required.
