NATURE AND SCOPE
Reports to the Vice President, Internal Audit, with day-to-day oversight from the Internal Audit Manager Sr. Plans and executes audit procedures throughout the credit union to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Reviews internal controls to ensure that assets and information are secure. Serves as a resource to the department for information sharing, provides guidance and leadership to less experienced auditors, and works under minimal supervision of department managers. The Senior Internal Auditor performs auditor-in-charge duties on engagements, completes higher-risk audit testing, and acts as an interim department leader when senior leadership is unavailable.


REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
  2. Minimum of three years of professional audit experience, or equivalent financial institution experience.
  3. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), having or willing to work toward an appropriate certification, is a plus.
  4. Demonstrated independent experience with the internal audit process, including standards, best practices, procedures, and risk assessments.
  5. Experience in the Microsoft Office Suite with strong skills in Word and Excel applications required. Experience with using Data Analysis Tools, Governance Risk Compliance Software, or Auditing Software a plus.
  6. Proven ability to independently organize work, balance multiple priorities and manage a variety of projects in a high-volume work environment with strong attention to detail.
  7. Understanding of company policies and procedures as they relate to the position. Must understand and comply with all job-related state and federal laws and regulations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead planned audits in the company, including inspecting accounts, detecting ineffective or inefficient practices, researching compliance with applicable laws rules and regulations governing the credit union, and verifying financial records.
  2. Perform walkthroughs with key internal stakeholders to understand and document business processes, identify key controls, and develop and execute testing plans to assess the design and operating effectiveness of those controls.
  3. Complete complex data analyses, detailed testing, and root cause analyses of findings.
  4. Organize and present meaningfully detailed reports to communicate the results of an audit to company management. Supplement written reports with practical recommendations. Assist with finding issue management.
  5. Develop workpapers and other audit materials that meet all relevant professional practice requirements.
  6. Perform initial review work of staff level associates.
  7. Assist department staff, outside auditors, consultants, and examiners as needed.
  8. Serves as a subject matter expert resource to Internal Audit Department staff members.
  9. Participate in the department's continuing education program and perform responsibilities to maintain any certifications and licenses.
  10. Perform other assignments as requested.
