Playwriting/Screenwriting/Television Writing

The Department of Radio/Television/Film at Northwestern University is searching for a tenure-eligible faculty member, at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of Playwriting/Screenwriting/Television Writing. We seek to recruit an individual engaged in impactful and visionary work in dramatic writing. We welcome applicants with expertise in areas including, but not limited to, underrepresented voices, comedy, interactive media, and film production. Our intention is to recruit individuals with a track record of, or potential to develop, cutting-edge programmatic research to move the field forward. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the undergraduate writing program. Our department has strong ties to the Department of Theatre, the Department of Performance Studies, and The Department of Communication Studies.

Preferred Start Date: September 1, 2024

Qualifications:

1. MFA Degree (or equivalent professional experience)
2. At least one year of teaching at the University Level
3. Notable writing credits in some combination of television/film/theatre/interactive media

Duties:

• Teaching classes in the RTVF dramatic writing curriculum
• Service to the Department of Radio/Television/Film
• Curriculum development for the undergraduate dramatic writing sequence

The departments span the communication arts and sciences including the Department of Radio-Television-Film, the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Department of Theatre (which includes music theatre and dance).
