Position: CTD Temporary Instructor (Online)
Hours: This is a part-time position Friday Nights: 7-10pm
Pay: Stipends includes curriculum and course development/modification, teaching responsibilities, creation and management of a supplemental course page in CTD's LMS, Schoology, and student evaluation writing. $2,500 teaching stipend
Campus: Evanston
Approximate start/end date: Beginning weekend of January 26th. No class on the weekend of February 9th. Scheduled to end the weekend of March 22nd. Potential class weekend of April 4th if "pad" week is needed due to teacher absence.

Northwestern University is seeking a Temporary Instructor (Online) for the Evanston campus.

Temporary Job Description:

The temporary Instructor (Online); International Partnership, Winter-Weekend, Live-Online, 8-week Courses Grade 5-9 Fully Remote Position. Winter two-week online courses offer students the opportunity to engage with like-minded peers on a topic of interest over eight weekends during live, synchronous online sessions. Instructors modify and implement challenging and engaging online enrichment courses for students in grades 5 & 6 and 7 to 9. Course content is one to two years above grade level to meet the needs of CTD's academically talented student population. Instructors receive support and training in Schoology (CTD's learning management system) but should have experience with online or hybrid learning environments and be able to differentiate instruction for high ability students with a range of skill levels and background knowledge. Courses are paced to allow for alternating periods of talking, listening and hands-on activity, as well as individual work and group work. 2 TA's, one bilingual from partner organization, will be provided.

Future opportunities may also subsequently be available.

Course Titles (Previous weekend version OR previous credit-bearing syllabi available for editing and modification)

* Brain and Behavior: Intro to Psychology (7 - 9)

* Start-up Strategies: Entrepreneurship and Marketing (5 - 6)

* Surviving in Space (5-6)

* Persuasion and Debate (7-9)

Training:

* Instructors have flexible access to an online training course and sample class once a position is confirmed.

* One or more live, virtual training sessions will be required before the session.

General Responsibilities:

* Update, modify and/or prepare all course curriculum and instructional components, including resources and activities to accommodate a variety of student interests and learning styles as well as a range of background knowledge and skill levels.

* Submit curriculum for review, feedback and archiving according to program requirements.

* Choose and request appropriate supplies and materials for the course according to a timeline.

* Execute course curriculum in a digital classroom environment that fosters student engagement, academic risk-taking, and inclusion.

* Lead all synchronous course meetings and be available to reply to students via Schoology for the duration of the course session, including each weekend day.

* Maintain program standard of student supervision for online instruction.

* Assess and evaluate student progress according to CTD guidelines and course learning objectives.

* Supervise teaching assistant's performance and engagement in the classroom.

* Learn and implement CTD policies and procedures.

* Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.

* Assume program-related responsibilities and communication as requested by CTD administrative staff.

Qualifications Required:

* Bachelor's degree and experience teaching accelerated and/or compacted curricula.

* Master's degree, at least three years of lead teaching and experience with second language students preferred but not required.

* Subject matter expertise and experience working with hybrid learning models.

* Experience working with Schoology or a similar LMS (Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.).

* Ability to adapt content for a fast-paced, live online environment.
