Job Title: Employee Prescription Center Pharmacy Technician

Hours: 9:30am-6pm. No weekends but some holidays. Pharmacy is for employees only and we are self-insured, so there are minimal insurance issues, manageable volumes and no drive thru assignment.

What you will do:

The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to pharmacists at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Essential Functions:

  • Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's values and support our mission and vision.

  • Enters prescriptions in the operating system, analyzes, and reviews prescriptions for completeness and accuracy according to specified standards. Accurately adjudicates prescription claims through insurance, performs prescription benefits investigation, and completes prior authorizations.

  • Assists in the preparation, packaging, and labeling of medications. Prepares various forms of medication for patients in accordance with the policies and procedures at CHW.

  • Interacts and communicates with patients, families, and other medical personnel in person and over the phone. Confers with the healthcare team to assure all patient information is communicated and received to manage the prescription process.

  • Assists in inventory management by accurately maintaining inventory levels on the shelf and in the computer system, including narcotics and over-the-counter product management. Orders, receives, and properly stores and stocks products, checks for outdates, and processes returns as needed. Handles narcotics according to policy and procedures. Provides information to aid in the resolution of any discrepancies.

  • Assists patients in the check-out process through the point of sale, collecting payment, and accurately closing the register drawer at the end of business.

  • Contributes to the quality improvement activities of the department by gathering data.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of a pharmacy tech program preferred.

  • Registered as a pharmacy technician in the State of Wisconsin

  • One-year experience in a pharmaceutical environment preferred.

  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and proportions at a level normally acquired through completion of high school.

  • Ability to read and write at a level where the candidate can review and update patient profiles, as well as understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work well under pressure due to time constraints and varying workloads.

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to operate a computer to process prescription orders, enter charges/credits, generate labels, and retrieve patient information

  • Good interpersonal and customer relations skills are needed to communicate effectively with various hospital personnel and families and to gather and exchange factual pharmaceutical information.
