The Promise Program is a federally funded Student Support Services TRiO program. The program serves first-generation and low-income college students in an effort to help them remain in good academic standing, persist in college, and graduate with a 4-year degree.
This individual will provide 5 hours per week of tutoring to Promise Program nursing students. An exact schedule will be negotiated and set every semester depending on demand for specific subject areas. (Tutors work while classes are in session and are not scheduled when students are on spring, summer, or winter breaks.)
Approximate start: November 15, 2012.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Competent in and comfortable assisting students with the following subjects:

Pharmacology

Nutrition
-
Medical-Surgical Nursing

Obstetrical Nursing
-
Pediatric Nursing
-
Pathophysiology
-
Foundations/Skills
-
Health Assessment
-
Biology (Introductory, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology)

Chemistry (Chemical Principles, Organic & Biological Chemistry)

Knowledgeable about NCLEX test-taking techniques and able to assist students in answering NCLEX-style questions.

Familiar with HESI exams.

Previous tutoring experience.

Familiar with the academic challenges first-generation, low-income students encounter.
Responsibilities:
-
Tutor students in specific course material, especially in the areas of science and nursing.

Assist students with answering NCLEX-style questions.
-
Integrate studying and learning strategies into tutoring sessions in order to promote independent learning.

Track student usage of tutoring service.

Communicate with Promise Program Director, Counselor and Advisors to relay information pertinent to students’ academic success, persistence, and graduation.

Communicate with instructors to plan appropriate academic support for students.

Facilitate and promote academic and social skill workshops.

Participate in professional development offerings.

Perform other duties as assigned.
