Job Description
Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting, coordinating, and processing all aspects of internal accounting transactions.  This position will provide support to ensure the accounting records are maintained in accordance with USA GAAP, that effective controls are maintained, and that the University uses its resources effectively and efficiently. In addition, the position will support the following functions: accounts payable, payroll, grant reporting, account reconciliations and other assigned functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare general ledger entries and facilitate month-end close.
  • Ensure all general ledger entries comply with institution’s policy and USA GAAP.
  • Assist in developing and implementing accounting process and procedures for improvement.      
  • Reconcile cash accounts and various other balance sheet accounts.
  • Provide support to payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and other functions.
  • Strategize collection activities to maximize student receipts.
  • Contact students regarding overdue balances and work with them to create payment solutions.
  • Research answers and solutions to questions and inquiries from departmental staff, students, faculty members, and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA or eligible to sit for CPA a plus.  
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
 
  • Three (3) years’ experience required in performing similar work.  
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR LICENSURE
 
  • Demonstrated accounting and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project is required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting
