Job Description
The Fashion Department at Mount Mary University seeks applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position with appointment to begin fall 2015.  Candidates should have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Fashion Design or related field, and three years of teaching experience at the college/university level or equivalent experience in a fashion-related field.
                                                                                                                                                          
 Position Responsibilities:
  • Teach 12 credits (up to 18 contact hours) of undergraduate courses in advanced apparel design, patternmaking, and construction; strong draping skills are a must. Student outcomes result in the creation of garments/collections to be shown in the annual student designer fashion show.
  • Experience with Optitex, Lectra Kaledo, and/or Adobe Illustrator/PhotoShop a plus.
  • Engage in a program of research and/or creative scholarship.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives including curriculum development, recruitment, student advising, and community outreach and special events.
  • Foster industry relationships through cooperative projects and internships.
  • Serve on department and college committees
  • Active participation in one or more professional organizations (i.e. ITAA, Costume Society, Fashion Group International, etc.)
 
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:
 
  • Master’s degree in a fashion-related discipline.
 
 
  • Three years of teaching experience and/or relevant experience in a fashion design-related field.
  • Evidence of scholarly/creative research considered a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

About the Department:
The Fashion Department currently serves 140 majors. The curriculum integrates professional course work with a liberal arts foundation.  The department offers majors in fashion design and merchandise management.  The fashion design major is known for its blending of sophisticated and marketable design with high technical standards; industry collaborations are a hallmark of the curriculum. The merchandise management major prepares students for careers in allied fashion industries; it includes a business administration minor. The University is home to an extensive historic costume collection and a machine knitting lab; computer labs offer Adobe, Lectra Kaledo, Optitex, and Visual Retailing software.
