SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Associate provides support to the Human Resources team with all daily administrative duties. The Human Resources Associate must maintain confidentiality and perform all duties in accordance with University policies and procedures. Will be assigned human resources related projects of a moderate nature.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supports the day-to-day administration of systems and programs (e.g., HRIS, unemployment compensation, tuition reimbursement tracking, health and welfare benefits, compensation, performance management, compliance training and EEO/Diversity).
Posts open positions, screens resumes compared to job descriptions to confirm applicants meet minimum qualifications, completes phone screens, schedules applicants for interviews and/or dispositions applicants appropriately. Processes background checks. Closes recruiting file for record retention and creates new employee file.
Prepares new hire orientation materials and reports new hires to the State of Wisconsin.
Processes weekly invoices by obtaining appropriate approvals and routes to Accounts Payable for payment.
Maintains the Human Resources documents on the University’s website and bulletin boards.
Assists with the coordination of special events (e.g., recognition lunches, retirement parties, new employee orientations, open enrollment meetings).
Provides customer service and support for internal customers.
Participates on Human Resources projects and initiatives.
Performs clerical administration such as: phone calls, processing mail, scheduling and calendaring meetings, maintaining filing systems, and ordering supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED required. College level coursework desired.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience required as an Administrative Assistant or related area. Previous experience in a Human Resources support role preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Prior experience with a human resource information system (HRIS) preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask
Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision
