Position Summary: This individual will lead the planning and implementation of dynamic initiatives to raise annual, renewable gifts for the University through strong appeal messaging. The Director of Donor Relations will promote contributions across diverse constituencies in partnership with the alumnae and donor relations team, while serving as a department leader. Through strong and creative messaging, the director will build a robust annual fund and stewardship program consistent with the University’s mission and values
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the Mount Mary annual campaign strategies, solicitations and stewardship to increase participation of donors and dollars annually.
Responsible for creative concepts, writing, & production of appeal & stewardship supporting materials/resources in collaboration with alumnae & donor relations and marketing teams.
Analyze campaign strategies, results, and opportunities through metrics.
Responsible for day-to-day department operations as well as coordinate monthly department meetings, providing updates, tools, and communication to keep all areas of the Alumnae & Donor Relations team up informed and engaged.
Explore and implement innovative ways to communicate with volunteers and alumnae through social networking sites (e.g., Facebook, You Tube, mobile giving). This includes research of best practice models across the higher education sector as well as other philanthropic sectors and dynamic messaging.
Lead the development and continual improvement of donor relations webpages updates and functionality.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Alumnae Relations in building affinity and messaging to alumnae and current students for greater annual fund and reunion support.
Administer “ThankView” (for donor/scholarship/endowment, stewardship, etc.).
Manage related budgets.
Prepare fund development reports to track progress for senior leadership.
Lead and/or assist with the planning and coordination of donor cultivation, stewardship, and alumnae relations events as needed.
Lead the internal development council (comprised of faculty, staff, & administration).
Develop and lead the internal giving campaign & stewardship.
Meet and personally qualify and solicit internal stakeholders and low to mid-level donors.
Supervise donor relations’ student workers.
Work with gift officers to help identify and rate prospects by giving capacity and affinity.
Act as an ambassador of the University.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or significant related experience, CFRE a plus
Five years successful experience in fund development work, preferably higher education or related field
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to understand the needs and interests of key stakeholders in order to develop relationships between them and the University
Exceptional messaging and writing skills
Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the University’s fundraising priorities by developing excellent relationships with faculty, administration, trustees, volunteers, and the alumnae & donor relations team
Demonstrates leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional activities
Experience in working with marketing professionals to develop collateral materials to support fund development initiatives
Adheres to the highest ethical standards & protection of donors’ rights; demonstrates empathetic disposition and perseverance; reflects an optimistic and positive attitude; and conveys a sensitivity to needs of the donors
Excellent interpersonal skills, writing and listening skills, and a demonstrated record of timely completion of assignments
Demonstrate good stewardship of University and donor resources
Proficient with donor software and ability to successfully utilize for reporting, analyzing, evaluating (Raisers’ Edge experience a plus)
Understand and affirm the mission of Mount Mary University and the School Sisters of Notre Dame
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with superior organizational skills
Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects, and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously
