Job Description
Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for coordinating all of the collection and billing functions of the university.  The position is full-time, with some evening and/or weekend hours.
 
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Receive and record student tuition payments and all other payments, including on-line payments.
  • Post and close daily cash receipts, prepare daily deposits, and maintain a daily deposits worksheet.
  • Research and resolve student tuition account issues in conjunction with the Student Accounts Coordinator, the Financial Aid Department, the Registrar, and other university departments.
  • Service students, answer questions, and resolve issues on a timely basis, while applying Mount Mary University student accounts receivable policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Participate in student orientations.
  • Reconcile and prepare monthly sales tax reports.
  • Set up and maintain student deferred payment plans in conjunction with the Student Accounts Coordinator.
  • Reconcile accounts for the annual audit, maintain program cost analysis worksheets, and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Controller.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  •  Ability to communicate effectively and solve problems.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents and other stakeholders in answering questions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience in working with an ERP system.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and as a team member.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented, ability to identify errors and reconcile accounts.
  • Familiarity with accounting terms and collection processes a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Minimum high school education.  Formal accounting and college education a plus.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position.
