Job Description
Mount Mary University is seeking an innovative and dynamic accounting professional to assist the Vice President of Finance and Administration/CFO in managing the business affairs of the university.
 
The Controller is responsible for leading and managing the accounting activities of the university. The Controller supervises the Business Office which includes Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Billing, and Payroll. In this position, the Controller will be responsible for ensuring that the accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, effective controls are maintained, risks mitigated, that the university employees use resources effectively and efficiently, and that excellent customer service is provided.
 
The successful candidate must be committed to continuous improvement and perform the following duties: 
  • Perform compliance and operational audits
  • Provide post-award grant administration
  • Implement an enterprise risk management program
  • Implement a quality management program
  • Perform cost and financial analysis
  • Oversee the purchasing function
  • Coordinate the annual audit, prepare required documentation, financial statements, and accompanying notes
  • Oversee all daily operations related to financial transactions, and ensure that they are performed in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
  • Protect the assets of the university
  • Work with the Financial Aid Office in the administration of financial aid funds
  • Work with the Development Office in the administration of donor funds
  Qualifications and Experience:
 
  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in accounting or related field required
  • CPA required
  • 5 years of experience in a similar environment required
  • MBA or MS in Accountancy preferred
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Committed to excellence in performance
  • Service oriented
