SL Industries, Inc., through its subsidiaries, designs, manufactures and markets power electronics, motion control, power protection, power quality electromagnetic and specialized communication equipment that is used in a variety of medical, commercial and military aerospace, computer, datacom, industrial, telecom, transportation, utility, rail and highway equipment applications. Its products are generally incorporated into larger systems to increase operating performance, safety, reliability and efficiency. The Company's products are largely sold to Original Equipment Manufacturers ("OEMs"), the utility industry and, to a lesser extent, to commercial distributors.
SL Industries' business strategy is to serve global market niches by offering highly engineered specialty products across a wide spectrum of power electronics and motion control applications. Each of the Company's operating units seeks to enhance growth and profitability through the penetration of attractive new markets, further improvement of operations through the implementation of lean manufacturing principles and expansion of global capabilities. The Company expects to achieve these goals through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
On March 29, 1956, the Company was incorporated as G-L Electronics Company in the state of New Jersey. Its name was changed to G-L Industries, Inc. in November 1963; SGL Industries, Inc. in November 1970; and then to the present name of SL Industries, Inc. in September 1984. Through its four main operating units, the SL Power Electronics Corporation, the High Power Group ( Teal Electronics Corporation and MTE Corporation), SL Montevideo Technology, Inc., and RFL Electronics, Inc., SL has maintained its position as a leader in the power electronics and power protection industries.
