About Us
Founded in 1846 by two Yale men, Beloit College is Wisconsin’s oldest college, and one that has long been a national leader in the delivery of a rigorous, innovative, and rewarding liberal arts and sciences education. Beloit routinely appears as a “best value” in U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review, and is heralded as one of the “Colleges That Change Lives” by the late author and former New York Times education editor Loren Pope. Beloit draws students from 49 of the 50 U.S. states and nearly 40 foreign countries. Located on the Wisconsin-Illinois stateline, the college is easily reached from O’Hare Airport, downtown Chicago, and Madison, Wis., by a convenient and inexpensive bus service.
This college and this education—now over 167 years old—is more relevant than ever. The curriculum is flexible yet demands that students put the liberal arts into practice. Over 60% of Beloit students have at least one internship before graduation and over a quarter of those students say it led to their first job. Over $300,000 is made available to students for summer internships and research opportunities. The National Science Foundation ranked Beloit 31st as a producer of students enrolled in science and math graduate programs; Beloit ranks #1 among liberal arts colleges as the producer of future Ph.D.s in anthropology. First employers of Beloit graduates have included Groupon, American Dance Festival, Americorps, Bates White Economic Consulting, Centers for Disease Control, The Smithsonian National Museum, The Washington Post, to name a few.
