Company Overview
Established in 1995 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2002, Diverse & Resilient is a nonprofit organization whose mission is the healthy development of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Wisconsin by creating and sustaining programs, groups and communities to take action.  Our name serves as reminder that LGBT people are everywhere, engage in interesting and meaningful lives, and contribute to the welfare of each other and the broader community.

Over the past 20 years, D&R has established itself as the statewide leader in addressing LGBT health disparities in Wisconsin.  Working in collaboration with more than 60 organizations, schools and government programs, we have established a consistent record of producing high quality, evidence based programs and capacity building services.  Examples include: adapting evidence based programs to address LGBT health disparities related to tobacco use, alcohol abuse, partner and community violence, suicide prevention, mental health promotion, and HIV testing and STI prevention programs.   Perhaps the greatest social innovation of the organization is Acceptance Journeys, a marketing and education program designed for heterosexual communities that addresses anti-gay stigma experienced by LGBT people with real stories that express the love and acceptance of family members and friends for an LGBT person.  This project reaches more than 165,000 individuals each year with outdoor media reaching more than 100 million impressions.

Today our reach extends from Milwaukee to Madison to rural communities across Wisconsin, directly serving 8,000 LGBT people and reaching 165,000 Wisconsin residents through social marketing. We employ a diverse 20+ staff and 120 paid Community Health Workers with an operating budget of $1.8 million.
