About Us
BloodCenter of Wisconsin, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a non-profit, transfusion medicine organization providing blood products and services to the nation’s hospitals and a critical global resource for diagnostic laboratory testing, medical services, and blood research.

BloodCenter’s operations are comprised of four basic components:

  • Diagnostic Laboratories including hemostasis, histocompatibility, platelet antibody and immunohematology.
  • Blood Services including the collection and distribution of blood and blood products through its network of donor centers in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, Manitowoc, Wood and Washington Counties. All the blood and blood components used by patients in more than 30 Wisconsin hospitals are provided by the Center.
  • Medical Services including the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders and Transfusion Management.
  • Research (through the Blood Research Institute) with a focus on blood-related disorders such as heart disease, cancer, hemophilia, and also studies various aspects of the immune system.
Celebrating more than a half-century of community service, BloodCenter has an extensive history of providing blood collection and distribution with an intense emphasis on quality and service. It operates permanent donor facilities at its downtown Milwaukee headquarters, the Milwaukee suburbs of Brown Deer, Greenfield, and Wauwatosa; as well as Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, Manitowoc, West Bend, and Marshfield. All the blood and blood components used by patients in more than 30 Wisconsin hospitals are provided by the Center.

BloodCenter is affiliated with the Blood Centers of America and the Community Blood Centers of Wisconsin. It maintains membership in the American Association of Blood Banks, America’s Blood Centers, and the Wisconsin Association of Blood Banks. Funding for research programs is obtained through organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.

It was founded in 1947 by the Junior League of Milwaukee with the support of the Milwaukee County Medical Society and the Hospital Council of Greater Milwaukee.
