Company Overview

30 years ago, 2-4 children in 10,000 born in America would eventually be diagnosed with autism.

Today that number is a staggering 1 in 150.

Autism is a developmental disorder which disconnects children from their environment and other people. This can be a very upsetting and scary time for families dealing with this issue. Currently, autism cannot be cured, but it can be treated. WEAP was founded on the principles first developed by Dr. Ivar Lovaas of UCLA. His behavioral treatment finds a way around autism and allows children to learn in new ways.

WEAP has taken these principles and honed them through intensive research to find the best treatment methods. This research has shown that up to 50% of WEAP clients achieve a state of effective normalcy. They have caught up to their peers and have a real chance at a fully integrated life.

We do this because we care so much about the families we encounter. It lights us up when we see a child achieve another goal. Children are graduating from our program and heading into the world with confidence and ability. The Wisconsin Early Autism Project, Inc., is a program and clinic for the treatment of children with autism based on the work of Dr. Ivar Lovaas, the pioneer of an intensive behavioral approach with proven best outcomes.

WEAP provides ongoing therapeutic treatment through its local clinics for families in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Malaysia, and Vancouver as well as training workshops with follow-up supervision for families in other parts of the United States and the world.

Funding for treatment in Wisconsin
The state of Wisconsin currently offers funding for in home autism treatment through a waiver system. Children under the age of eight with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder who demonstrate a medical need may be eligible to receive up to three years of funding for intensive autism treatment. Children older than eight may be eligible for reduced funding for a variety of services.

The waiver is offered state-wide and is administered by individual counties. County case managers work directly with families to complete the waiver application process. Some counties have chosen not to administer the waiver, and in these counties, the state has contracted with private agencies to assist families interested in securing funding.
