Major Responsibilities:

Main job is to coordinate patient flow through the Inspire/Remede process, from patient recruitment through screening, implantation, activation, and appropriate long term follow up.  In order for this to work, would need to:

1)       Lead the team that looks through the screening tools already used and whatever else we decide could help to recruit patients.  Examples are going through the sleep medicine patients who are non-compliant with cpap and fallen out of care, reaching out to the patients who screen positive for sleep apnea during their pre-op testing, and involvement in the screening process in cardiology.  This part of the job may be a ton of work, so we would want to coordinator to lead it, but likely need other worker bees to actually do the grunt work.

2)      Track and coordinate visits between the different services once an Inspire candidate has been identified.  Make sure the patient makes the appropriate appointments and actually follows through.

3)      Keep track of all the testing needed for each patient…sleep study appropriate and within the required time frame, pre op visit with clinician team, sleep endoscopy performed. 

4)      Coordinate submission of all the appropriate data to insurance or Inspire for approval for the implant.

5)      Act as liaison with ENT/Cardio surgical coordinator to inform her when the patient is ready to schedule for sleep endoscopy and implantation. 

6)      Act as liaison with sleep team to make sure patient has appropriate follow up for activation and management post-implantation

7)      Act as liaison with Inspire reps to coordinate their involvement in care, troubleshoot issues, etc. 

  • Serves as the primary contact for patients expressing interest in surgery. Participates in monthly seminars to potential patients and initiates contact after attendance.
  • Maintains contact with patients requiring ongoing support and acts as a resource throughout the process. Refers patients to appropriate specialty resources or interdisciplinary team members as appropriate.
  • Assists patients with health insurance requirements, financial arrangements, and financial assistance options. Coordinates necessary resources and services to obtain approval for surgery.
  • Works with surgeon's office to ensure that insurance requirements for surgery are met prior to the patient being approved for surgery.
  • Works with primary care referral sources and participates in on-site primary care education.
  • Participates in weekly interdisciplinary team conference, evaluating patient's readiness for surgery.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • High School Graduate.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in working with patients, physicians, and/or insurance providers in a health care or health insurance organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, health insurance options, and/or the insurance verification process.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar product.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with interruptions.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must have functional speech, vision and hearing.
