The primary focus of this role:
  • Supervision of Accounts Payable Staff
  • ACFR and Audit Coordination 
  • Month-End and Transaction Oversight 

In collaboration with the Controller, the Assistant Controller plays a key leadership role at the college. Responsibilities encompass overseeing accounts payable, general accounting, banking activities, and reporting functions. The Assistant Controller actively contributes to the production of financial statements and reports, ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, local, and Wisconsin Technical College System statutes, as well as compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  The team is dedicated to maintaining financial integrity and transparency within the college's operations.

This position involves supervisory responsibilities, and the Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES

ACFR and Audit Coordination: 

  • Assist with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Assist Controller with annual audits.
  • Address corrective actions from audit findings. 
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for external auditors.
Accounting and Financial Analysis:
  • Assist in revenue and expenditure statement preparation.
  • Prepare reconciliations and financial analysis spreadsheets.
  • Support daily, monthly, and annual accounting tasks.
Month-End and Transaction Oversight:
  • Assist in month-end close and annual accounting processes.
  • Review Accounts Payable batches and activity reports weekly.
  • Audit transactions for policy adherence.
Journal Entries:
  • Prepare, review, and create journal entries.
Regulatory Compliance and PCI-DSS:
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Enforce college compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI-DSS) regulations.
  • Monitor and train for PCI-DSS district-wide compliance.
Additional Responsibilities:  
  • Perform related duties for effective and efficient financial college operation.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *REVISED*

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Five (5) years or more of accounting experience including month-end and year-end close processes and reporting, including external audit preparation
  • Supervisory experience
Preferred:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), active license
  • Experience in education, auditing, OR the public sector
Other required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a quick learner

Ninety (90) day waiting period before benefits become payable. 66 2/3% of salary during period of disability to be reviewed by insurance company at the end of two years.  Premium paid by District.

WISCONSIN RETIREMENT SYSTEM
The employer pays 6.5% and the employee pays 6.5% of the shares. Normal retirement benefits are based on a formula for retirement at age 65.
