Full-time Faculty - Construction Management

Job Description
The Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) Department at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites nominations and applications for an open full-time faculty position beginning September 1, 2020. The department seeks an individual that will complement and strengthen our outstanding faculty. The candidate’s primary focus will be construction management, and the preferred candidate will be willing and able to teach fundamental course work in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
MSOE, a leading undergraduate and master’s level institution of learning founded in 1903, is in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The institution serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of engineering, mathematics, business, nursing and communications. The university prides itself in having more laboratories than classrooms on campus, showing our commitment to experiential learning. The university’s primary mission is excellence in student learning, and university faculty are primarily evaluated on their teaching excellence.
The CAECM Department is well-known for its excellence in undergraduate and master’s level education. The Department maintains a strong student-centered focus and is committed to educating future leaders in engineering design and construction. The Department currently has 16 full-time faculty members of various rank and expertise. The Department has experienced growth with the addition of the newly accredited Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree program, and the Department currently serves over 350 undergraduate and graduate students. Degree offerings include Bachelor and Master of Science in Architectural Engineering, Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. The Department also collaborates with the Rader School of Business for an MBA in Construction Management. Several specializations are available, including structural engineering, mechanical and electrical systems engineering for buildings, environmental and water resources engineering, transportation engineering and construction management.

The following attributes and credentials are required of the candidate:
- A master’s degree in Construction Management or a closely related field
- An undergraduate degree in Construction Management or a closely related field from an ABET or ACCE accredited institution
- Several (preferably five or more) years of practical senior level commercial project management experience in a U.S. based construction company or U.S. governmental body
- A strong commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate and master’s level teaching
- An ability to teach course work at all levels, from first year courses to graduate courses, primarily within the candidate’s construction management specialty (e.g., estimating, scheduling, project management, etc.) but also fundamental courses (e.g., construction materials, construction methods, introduction to construction and engineering, etc.) as necessary and as assigned by the Department Chair
- Willing to participate in departmental and institutional activities, such as academic advising, assessment initiatives, institutional service, or other activities as assigned
- An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Construction Management or a closely related field
- Additional specialty licensure and/or certification, such as a Certified Professional Constructor (CPC), Professional Engineer (PE) or LEED Certification
- Able and willing to teach courses in other specialty areas in construction management (e.g., mechanical systems, electrical systems, surveying, BIM)
- Experience in developing and delivering courses for adult learners and corporate training
- An ability and desire to advise fourth-year students in their undergraduate capstone projects and master’s students in their graduate capstone projects
- Membership in one or more professional societies, with a desire to pursue leadership roles within those societies
- Able and willing to collaborate with other departmental faculty and other academic units on campus, including student organizations
- A commitment to inclusiveness for all students in teaching, learning and advising
- An energetic, humble, positive attitude with an approachable educational style
- Cover letter expressing interest and qualifications for the position,
